A lifeguard, Mickey, relates a story about his youth in the 1950's when he worked near Coney Island, New York, and the now-famous Wonder Wheel attraction. Larger-than-life characters fill amazing backdrops as relationships build and unravel after the estranged daughter of a carousel operator at the mid-stage of his life and his overly-pressured wife, Ginny, comes home for a visit. The lives of these average people change in dramatic ways as the wife becomes romantically targeted by the younger version of the lifeguard. The lifeguard's story is filled with moments of everyday living, love, infidelity and even a few gangsters.
