Stella is a widowed Texan rancher who learns that she will lose her property if she doesn't repay her late husband's debts. As Stella thinks of ways to save the ranch, she finds a band of sickly wild horses. She begins to care for them, and she finds helpers through a program that puts prisoners to work with the horses. This deal solves her money issues, but the ranch faces a new threat when Meredith comes to town. Meredith is an animal rights activist who believes that wild mustangs should roam free. She will do anything to stop Stella from domesticating the starving horses on her ranch.
