Steve McGarret, a decorated Navy Seal, returns to his childhood home of Hawaii to investigate his father's recent murder. The governor of Hawaii invites Steve to establish a task force with full immunity and means to combat crime in any way they see fit. Steve names the task force Hawaii Five-O and begins assembling his team. His first recruit is Danny Williams, a New Jersey detective who has moved to Hawaii to be close to his daughter re-married ex-wife. Steve also hires Chin Ho Kelly, a Hawaiian native who was fired from the Honolulu Police Department following allegations that he stole from the department's evidence locker. Chin Ho convinces Steve to hire his cousin Kono Kalakaua, a former professional surfer and a recent graduate of the police academy. With their unique combination of skills, this elite Five-O team handles some of the most bizzare, difficult and high-profile cases in Hawaii.
