It starts as a familiar tale of a man who provides for himself through manipulation and deceit. He participates in everything from conning small-time gamblers to running elaborate schemes on companies to selling drugs to high school students - but his life changes when he meets his wife, a classy businesswoman with a flair for fashion. He pursues her even though she is already married and has a child, and she eventually agrees to leave her husband for him. They go on the run, but he gets arrested for a minor crime - ironically, the first offense that can get him locked away for many years. He does not want to go and tries everything he can to avoid prison.
