At the Poppy Meadow hive, the bees discover that a short summer has resulted in a smaller honey harvest. Then a representative from Buzztropolis arrives to tell them that the Empress has declared that half of their honey must go to the Honey Games. Since this loss would cause them to starve over winter, Maya believes that her only option is to make an appeal directly to the Empress. After she's given the wrong instructions about how to approach the throne, Maya finds herself in a sticky situation and insults the Empress by pointing out that her hive isn't even allowed to compete in the games. The irate ruler agrees to allow Maya to compete, but with one condition: Maya must win the games or her hive will have to pay all of its honey as a penalty. Maya is then forced onto a team of misfits that don't have any obvious talents. Maya has never given up when faced with obstacles in the past, but will her determination alone be enough to win the games and save her hive?
