Resurrection takes place in the rural town Arcadia, Missouri, where the dead are mysteriously rising from the grave and walk again. Families reunited with their deceased loved ones--unchanged and unaged from their original moment of death--struggle to make sense of the miraculous circumstances they find themselves in. One of the few resurrected is Jacob Langston, a young child who died in a rushing river trying to save his aunt over three decades ago. After being discovered in a field in China, federal agent Martin Bellamy bonds with the boy to learn where he is from and how he came to be so far from home. After learning that he's from Arcadia, Bellamy tries to get the family to accept that their son is back as a small child and also deals with the other resurrected who begin reaching out to their families.
