Hell on Wheels features the story of Cullen Bohannon, a former slave owner and veteran of the Civil War. He is after the soldiers who murdered his wife and daughter in cold blood. His search brings him to the middle of the transcontinental railroad project where he begins working on one of the largest industrial undertakings in the United States during that time in history. Hell on Wheels gives a realistic look at the unique and often undesirable culture surrounding the construction of the great railroad system while following Bohannon's personal story of vengeance, as well as showcasing the struggles, successes, and immoral business practices of the rail company.
