Jane Rizzoli is a detective for the Boston police department, and Dr. Maura Isles is the medical examiner. The two ladies both have strong personalities and opinions, but they are complete opposites of one another. Rizzoli grew up in an Italian household with three brothers, so she learned quickly how to take care of herself. Dr. Isles is more refined and has an extensive amount of education behind her. The two are able to pair up and solve some of the most difficult crimes together, even with their different approaches. When they are off the job, they are best friends. Rizzoli is married with children, and Dr. Isles is single and childless. Though they come from different backgrounds, the bond they have is strong whether it is solving a murder together or enjoying a night out for the girls.
