A simple backpacking trip to Colorado ends up going awry for Mitch Davis and his son, his son's friends, and even their dog. Based on a true story, The Stray showcases the ways that an animal can have an impact on a family. The dog, Pluto, is both a guard dog and a guardian angel. During the backpacking trip, the party of five are all struck by lightning and must deal with the aftermath.
