Richard Castle is a successful author of mysteries. He lives in New York City. A killer begins committing murders that resemble murders in Castle's books. The New York City mayor gives Castle permission to work for the New York Police Department as a consultant to help catch the killer. Castle is assigned to work with Detective Kate Beckett. Beckett does not want to work with Castle. She later realizes that he can be helpful, and they work together to catch killers.
