When 11-year-old Alexander awakens one morning to find gum in his hair, he knows nothing good can come of it. He has no idea that he will, in fact, experience the most terrible, horrible day of his life so far. One calamity follows another, then another. Unfortunately, Alexander's relentlessly cheerful family simply doesn't understand and offers no sympathy when he tries to tell them about the sour mood his no good, very bad day has put him in, and he becomes convinced that only he must endure such trials. Soon, his brothers, mom, and dad all have stinking rotten days of their own, proving that it happens to everyone.
