An unlikely friendship develops between an aging screenwriter, Charlie, and a young woman named Emma whom he meets when she arrives to claim a lunch date with him that is the result of a winning bid at a charity auction. A seafood allergy ends their prearranged lunch early but becomes the catalyst of their continuing friendship as Emma realizes she can help Charlie with a looming medical issue that promises to change his life for the worse.
