After living in the United States for ten years, Jimmy Gralton decides to return to his homeland, Ireland, in 1932. When he gets back home, Jimmy learns that everything has changed after a new conservative movement has gained power. Jimmy wants to share the freedom he discovered in America, and he opens a dance hall, where young people can dance, study, enjoy jazz music, and talk. Though Jimmy and his mother just want to help their community, the powerful local government and churches decide to shut down Jimmy?s hall because they think that it is a bad influence.
