After a string of bad luck, ex-convict Shadow is offered a job by a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday. Shadow agrees to be Mr. Wednesday's driver and bodyguard, but he quickly realizes that the job isn't your usual 9-to-5: It involves navigating a dark underworld where magic is real and controlled by battling forces known as the "Old Gods" and the "New Gods." Thrust into a war that he doesn't understand, Shadow must do his best to survive, especially after Mr. Wednesday reveals that he knows a little too much about Shadow's life and past.
