On the surface, Family Guy may look like the traditional animated family sitcom. Overbearing father figure Peter Griffin, mother Lois, dim-witted son Chris, and outcast daughter Meg are certainly in the mold of the Simpsons and Flintstones, but there's a stranger sense of irreverence to their adventures. The story often takes a turn to the Dada, with elaborate cutaway gags taking precedence over formal narrative and frequent diversions into the absurd. The cast is rounded out by their intellectual but snobbish dog - and best friend to Peter - Brian and the family's homicidal infant child Stewie who has plans of world domination.
