Sheriff Rick Grimes awakens in the hospital after being shot in the line of duty and going into a coma. He realizes that everyone around him is either missing or dead. However, the dead are actually undead. These "walkers" are hungry and Rick needs to find out if his family is still alive. He sets out for Atlanta, Georgia where the Center for Disease Control is located, fighting his way through the swarms of undead. The Walking Dead follows Rick through his journey of survival and the people and "walkers" he meets along the way.
