In "The Fundamentals of Caring," an unlikely friendship is formed between Trevor, a disabled teenage boy, and his new caregiver Ben, a retired writer who has recently lost his own son in an accident. The two develop a bond while on a road trip, and each one comes to terms with his own personal hardship. On the way to a site called ?the world's deepest pit,? Trevor and Ben pick up two wayward travelers, Dot and Peaches. The women's presence tests the strength of Ben and Trevor's relationship and challenges their ideas about love and family.
