When her daughter Lori, moves to Los Angeles looking for a new start, Marnie, a lonely widow, follows her to the city. At first, she begins to interfere with her daughter's life, but eventually, she meets many other interesting people who need her help even more. Living together in the same city now, the two both work to find new purposes in life. Marnie ends up dating an ex-cop, helping a student study, and even gets involved with a lesbian wedding.
