In Tyrant, Bassam hides from his past in America, living a normal life as a pediatrician. His home country is Abuddin, which has been ruled by a tyrannical family for years. A wedding for his nephew draws Bassam back to Abuddin. During this return, Bassam's father dies without warning, which throws the country into chaos. More and more Abuddin citizens want to revolt against the tyrannical family. To avoid bloodshed, Bassam attempts to guide his older sibling, now the new leader, from behind the scenes. His brother is the perfect tyrant for Abuddin, but that makes bloodshed all the more likely without Bassam's persistence to avoid conflict.
