Flashpoint follows the cases covered by Canada's Strategic Response Unit, based on Toronto, Canada's actual Emergency Task Force. This elite team of law enforcement officers is, in many ways, similar to a SWAT team with their surprise tactics and the high end weapons they have the ability to use when necessary. However, they are highly gifted with words and use this wonderful gift to try to talk each criminal, or individual who is putting him or herself in danger, off the ledge prior to employing force. Because of the nature of the work they do, this team is like a tight knit band of brothers (with one sister). They work together and do life together, and both elements have their place in the show.
