For Robert, it feels as though death has been hounding him of late. When a string of tragedies befalls him and his family in short order, his wife proposes that they regroup and head back to her childhood home for some normalcy. It quickly becomes obvious, however, that nothing about their lives is normal. When Robert finds a very old painting of a man that looks just like him, suddenly he starts to question everything about his existence. Is the doppelganger a harbinger of even more strange things to come?
