Yusuke Kafuku is an acclaimed stage actor and director. Two years following the death of his wife, he finds himself on the brink of a brand new opportunity, to direct a production of Uncle Vanya at a Hiroshima theater festival. While in Hiroshima, he is assigned a driver - a quiet young woman named Misaki Watari. As Yusuke works toward a successful premiere, he discovers a troubling connection between the show's star, Koshi Takatsuki, and his own late wife. With Misaki's help, Yusuke unearths and confronts secrets from his past, and the unsettling mysteries his wife left behind.
