Black Lightning is a superhero drama series centered around Jefferson Pierce, a school principal forced to face his past. Years prior, he was a hero called Black Lightning in his city, Freeland, but ultimately decided to retire and live as a civilian. However, the overt threats from a gang called The 100 and the struggle to keep his former wife and two daughters safe leads to Pierce stepping into the role of Freeland's savior once again.
