An ambitious FBI agent is given a plum assignment to investigate a notorious, local criminal in a small Kentucky town. His informant, a divorced mother, badly needs the money. She frequently provides the agent valuable assistance on the case. However, their work relationship soon develops into something more personal. The FBI agent becomes worried about what their affair will do to his marriage and career. When the criminal is successfully charged, the agent tries to end the affair with the informant. His persistent lover has other ideas, leading him to a desperate and insidious act.
