Sofia, a blind pianist living in London, hears the gruesome murder of an upstairs neighbor. Yet when Detective Inspector Oscar Mills asks if Sofia heard anything, she lies to him. The death is ruled a suicide by police. Sofia had good reasons to keep quiet: Her 28-year-old neighbor, Veronique, was the daughter of an accused Serbian war criminal. She was also kind and friendly, but asked for Sofia's help and slipped an item into Sofia's coat pocket one day for safe-keeping. Eventually, Sofia's attempts at hiding the truth and protecting herself fail and members of the Serbian underworld take notice of her. Detective Mills has also decided to continue to privately pursue the case. Yet, Veronique's secrets aren't the only ones that Sofia protects. Sofia holds another secret deep inside of her that fills her with the need for revenge and threatens to lead her into an even greater darkness than her blindness.
