Ragnar Lothbrok seems to be a simple farmer raising a family near the Viking stronghold of Kattegat in 8th century Norway. However, Ragnar is anything but a simple man. Determined to pursue raiding in distant lands, he enlists the help of Floki, an eccentric genius and master boat builder; they create a band of warriors to explore new lands ripe for plunder. Ragnar becomes the first Viking to discover and raid the British Isles, bringing him fame and allowing him to become leader of Kattegat. Political intrigue, betrayal and constant warfare play out against the backdrop of the Viking Age.
