Shy and sensitive Norman Bates seems like a clean-cut, polite young man, but he is anything but normal. He shares an unsettlingly close bond with his mother, Norma, and both of them have serious psychological problems. When Norma decides to buy a run-down old motel in a tiny town, their issues become impossible to ignore, and they start to have an effect on everyone around them. As Norman nears adulthood, his issues become more pronounced, and he and his mother both begin to wonder if he is doomed to forever be a danger to himself and others.
