When a viral outbreak kills an entire plane of passengers, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, head of the New York City branch of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), is called on to investigate. He's shocked to discover that it's no ordinary virus, however. It's actually an ancient, deadly strain of disease that has hallmarks of what the modern world calls "vampirism," and it's spreading fast. With the help of everyone from his scientific colleagues to everyday New Yorkers, Dr. Goodweather must find a way to stop the outbreak once and for all. The fate of the world hangs in the balance.
