The thriller science fiction television drama 12 Monkeys is based on the 1995 film with the same name. Time traveler James Cole sets out on a voyage from the year 2043 to his past. He arrives in the present day with a mission to eliminate the release of a lethal virus that is responsible for the demise of almost 94 percent of the global population. The chrononaut searches for information about an organization called the Army of the 12 Monkeys that released the plague. Cole's travels take him further back in time to 2014 and to 1987 as he continues to search for the virus.
