Claire Randall is a married combat nurse until 1945. She then finds herself experiencing culture shock when suddenly required to meet English marital duties and expectations that limit her independent nature. While on a vacation in Scotland with her husband Frank, she is thrown back in time to the Highlands of 1743 when Scots attempted to fight off British rule. Her medical knowledge makes her invaluable, but the people consider her an ?Outlander? and quickly marry her to a much younger, romantic warrior named Jamie Fraser.
