The human race is ravaged by a disease that turns the dead into flesh-eating zombies. They are referred to as "Walkers." The disease has infected everyone, so even natural deaths have the dead walking again. If that was not enough, individuals and groups of survivors vary widely in how much of their humanity they have retained. Some are worse than the Walkers. A core group of survivors in the Atlanta, Georgia area struggle to hang onto the good that remains while facing brutality from the walking dead and living humans who are perpetually in survival mode. The dead show no mercy, and the living are now afraid too.
