Best-selling mystery author Richard Castle gets pulled into a real-life murder case when a killer starts copying scenes from his books. Castle ends up helping lead detective Kate Beckett, as well as her colleagues Javier Esposito and Kevin Ryan. Inspired by his time with Beckett, the charming writer decides to base a new series on the beautiful detective. To Beckett's dismay, Castle uses his friendship with the mayor to get approval to shadow her as research. Kate, a secret fan of Castle's work, learns to appreciate his insights and outside-the-box thinking during their investigations. She also admires his relationships with his daughter, Alexis, and his mother, Martha Rodgers. Castle eventually wins Beckett over, becoming her civilian partner. As the pair grow closer, they fight an attraction that's obvious to their friends and family. Once Castle discovers Kate became a cop after her mother was murdered, he can't stop himself from looking into the cold case. This triggers a chain of dangerous events that leaves Beckett obsessed with finding the powerful person behind her mother's death.
