diverse collection of New Orleans residents struggle to put together the shattered pieces of their city after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Indomitable bar owner LaDonna is determined to keep the family business open, even though the neighborhood is unsafe and virtually deserted. Meanwhile, she enlists the help of crusading lawyer Toni Bernette to discover what exactly happened to her younger brother Daymo, missing since the day of the hurricane. Toni's husband Professor Creighton Bernette takes out his frustrations at the government's incompetence online. LaDonna's ex-husband Antoine Batiste struggles to make a living as a trombonist in the aftermath of the hurricane. Stubborn Indian chief Albert Lambreaux is determined to rebuild his ruined house at any cost, much to the dismay of his sophisticated son Delmond, an accomplished jazz musician. Relationships disintegrate in the aftermath of the storm as talented street violinist Annie and her Dutch boyfriend Sonny argue over his drug problems. The fallout from the storm continues when chef Janette Desautel begins to realize that her restaurant can't survive, and her boyfriend Davis is afraid that she may leave New Orleans.
