James Christmas walked out on his aristocratic family more than 25 years ago, but he suddenly decides to announce his return by crashing a holiday reunion in one of his Yorkshire mansions. After making amends with his four adult daughters despite a disastrous Christmas celebration, James falls into eccentricity and disappears again a year later, but his daughter Joanna tracks him down to the Caribbean, where he intends to spend the holidays with working-class families and a washed-out country music star who has similar plans. Convinced that their father is having a breakdown, the Christmas daughters fly to islands on a comedic rescue mission.
