A well-to-do man falls for a museum curator in 1950s Britain. Tom, a policeman in Brighton, England, is married to a beautiful woman and gives the appearance of the perfect life. However, societal norms at the time prevent him from openly pursuing the love of his life, a male schoolteacher. As homosexuality is illegal, pressures mount as he is to uphold the law of the land while leading a double life that threatens the foundation of everything, he holds dear. His life becomes threatened by an entanglement of duty, love, obligation, and ethics clash in this doomed love triangle.
