In a dystopian future in which the birthing rate has drastically dropped, Gilead (formerly the United States of America) has turned to its biblical roots and turned women who are still fertile into ?Handmaids?. They are assigned to a childless couple and used to give birth before being passed on to the next. The series follows Offred (formerly known as June) as she struggles to adjust to her new life without her husband or daughter and then the ever growing pressure of revolution as the women stuck within Gilead?s borders try to end the biblical tyranny once and for all.
