Charlie Waldo, a former top detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, has disappeared from the world to live off the grid in a cabin on a hill near the city. Charlie has become obsessive compulsive about environmental safety. He has reduced all of his possessions down to 100 items. He does everything possible to reduce his carbon footprint, including riding a bicycle. For three years, he has lived alone and isolated from the world. Then, one day, a private investigator who is also Charlie's former lover, Lorena, shows up on his doorstep. She needs his help with a high-profile murder investigation that involves famous actor Alastair Pinch and his wife Monica. Charlie doesn't know if he can handle the city again, but he agrees to give Lorena his help.
