On another earth of the infinite ones that exist, Courtney Whitmore is an average teenage girl who has to move to a new town after her mom remarries until she learns that her stepfather, Pat Dugan, was the superhero Starman's sidekick. She also finds Starman's Cosmic Staff among her stepfather's belongings. Ten years prior, the super villain Icicle of the Injustice Society of America killed Starman and the other members of the Justice Society during a battle. Before his death, Starman told Pat to search for someone worthy of wielding the staff. When Courtney finds the staff, it immediately acknowledges her as its wielder. She and her stepfather decide to team up to find more superheroes to establish a new superhero team to protect the world from villains like Icicle.
