Coming from a family heavily entrenched in the racist institutions of the 1960s South, Bob Zellner is under considerable pressure to uphold his family's ideals. However, as a senior at Huntingdon College, he and several other classmates decide to attend a local civil rights-related event at a local black church to gain insight into the country's race relations. While there, The local police arrive to remove them from the vicinity, later leading to the KKK burning a cross in front of his dorm room as a warning. From there, Zellner gets heavily involved in civil rights activities, eventually becoming a dedicated reporter on the subject.
