J.D. is a former marine and Yale student with three jobs hoping to land a summer internship in Washington, D.C. As he prepares for interview week, however, J.D. receives a call from his sister saying his mother is in the hospital. He apprehensively makes the trip back to his Ohio hometown to assist his Appalachian family. There, J.D. reflects on his and his family's past as well as the future he hopes to have in D.C.
