Businessman Marion Veidt has created a colony of highly intelligent and expertly designed transhuman beings in a futuristic world. When his daughter goes missing, he uses the services of private investigator David Carmichael to find her and bring her home. To accomplish this goal, the P.I. decides to team up with a technologically advanced humanoid robot named Jane, who helps him navigate through many dangerous channels and situations to track down the missing girl. Together, they quickly find the pieces to the puzzle, while discovering a crime that leads them to question the real origins and purpose of the zone.
