As World War I rages through Europe, three young children in Fatima, Portugal, raise the ire of their families and the Catholic Church as they report seeing and speaking to the Virgin Mary. As thousands of pilgrims begin to flood the town in search of a miracle, church and local government officials demand that the children recant their story, though local citizens are divided in their reaction. Struggling under the weight of publicity and the strain of having loved ones serving on the front lines, the children's families begin to crumble as the youngsters continue to believe in the Lady who gently speaks to them in the fields.
