Ned Kelly starts this visual autobiography by describing his father, John "Red" Kelly. Red was a native of Ireland ho moved to Van Diemen's Land and settles in Victoria, Australia. Red eventually marries Ellen, Ned's mother and the family settles in Avenel, a rural region of Melbourne. The family must hide from authorities in an attempt to maintain their freedom and raise a family as safely and "normally" as possible.
