This moving drama centers on an aging Scotsman, Rory McNeil whose health is deteriorating and goes to visit his estranged son, Ian, in San Francisco. Rory?s boorish manner fails to charm San Francisco?s citizens when he goes skinny-dipping in the bay, insists on wearing his kilt to an elegant, social event and criticizes the drinks. However, he shows his softer side when his meets his baby grandson and treats him with great affection. Rory forms an unconventional relationship with a young, museum curator, Claudia, but just as things get serious between them, he receives disturbing news about his medical condition.
