Alan and his friends, Red and Smitty, often spend their time at the Jersey Shore hanging out at the boardwalk, exploring local areas and burglarizing homes. A local police officer, Sgt. Kent, warns Alan that he still has time to turn around his life. After Red convinces Alan to bring his younger brother, Peter, along for a job on the peninsula across the bay, the brothers discover a bag of antique gold coins in an abandoned home. Red is older than the boys and violent. Alan considers the coins an opportunity for he and his brother to get out from under Red's control. They only have to find a way to keep the coins a secret.
