Equal parts historical drama and romantic comedy, Ladies in Black follows a group of young women working in a Sydney department store in 1959. Based off a best-selling novel, the fashion and cultural sensibilities of the 1950s come strongly into focus, as the lead characters come into their own in a time of changing gender roles and technological and social revolution. Lead character Lesly sits on the verge of adulthood, working in the local department store while learning whether or not she's been accepted to a local university, and she finds herself facing sexism both on the job and at home.
