Based on the novel by Penelope Fitzgerald, The Bookshop sets the calendar back to 1959 to tell the story of an aging widow named Florence Green who gets the inspiration to open a bookshop in a sleepy little town. Despite early successes, the store begins to flounder after a year. Complicating matters is the local legend that the rickety house in which she sets up shop is haunted by ghosts. At odds with Florence is a rich and ambitious member of Parliament who has set his sights on gaining the rights to the property to transform it into an arts center.
