After her aunt dies, Pauline inherits her house in the country and moves there with her two daughters. As soon as they arrive, though, they encounter murderous intruders, and Pauline is forced to protect her family. As years pass by, each of the daughters responds differently to their memories of the traumatic event and take separate paths in life. One goes on to write horror novels, and the other struggles to shake her horrific memories. After sixteen years pass, the women reunite at the house and realize that what they experienced before pales in comparison to what they face now.
