When the Earth becomes uninhabitable because of a horrific nuclear war, the last of humanity, only a few thousand people, survives in a colony called The Ark made of 12 space stations. Conditions are not ideal. These survivors struggle to maintain enough air, water and food for everyone. Any adult who commits a crime isn't placed into a jail cell. Instead, they're floated out an air lock into the vacuum of space.
Nearly 100 years after the initial holocaust on Earth, as the systems keeping them alive begin to fail, the current leaders decide that teenage prisoners too young to be floated should be sent to Earth to determine if the surface has become inhabitable once more.
It's a risky proposition given that the colonists have come to learn that radiation isn't the only thing waiting on the ground, but they have no other choice: There's no room any longer for these 100 teens on The Ark.
