Coles is a former "Cosmopolitan" magazine editor-in-chief, and "The Bold Type" offers a fictionalized, dramatic view of a women's magazine staff and their love lives, centered on young staffers Jane, Kat and Sutton. Along the way, the friends, and those around them, deal with issues of heartbreak, friendship and identity. The drama is served up with a dose of fashion, sex and beauty, similar to "Cosmopolitan" itself.
